Addiction Disorder 11_5_10 The drug is only the chemical change in part of an addiction Addiction is a habit, that has gone out to control and it effects the person’s health, ability to function, takes away from their daily activities Closely related to drug use but there are other behaviors that cause a person to get addicted, such as eating shopping, sex, gambling, running These activities for one reason or another release chemicals in your brain that give your pleasure if these activities didn’t give you pleasure you won’t do it Some people prefer to do the drug instead of the activity. While the brain chemistry influence the addiction the individual still have responsibility over their actions a person lifestyle pattern, personality traits play a key role in developing addiction Addiction shows four major characteristics : 1. Reinforcement: the behavior that you are doing, produces pleasure or takes away negative feelings 2. Craving: you feel compel to engage in the behavior 3. Loss of control:
