Rock, Gravel, And Sand Sieve Analysis Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to learn about how to classify rock, gravel and sand through the exploration of a sieve analysis of soil taken from local job sites. This will also help to determine if the soil is within geotechnical specifications. Introduction: The main goal of the experiment was to identify whether or not two soil samples from valley job sites were within job specifications and therefore could be used to build on. A sieve test was used to determine if the soil’s composition was adequate for the project or if the soil would need to be treated. Equipment: Soil Samples - 2 Set of Sieves – 1”, ¾”, ½”, 3/8”, ¼”, #4, #8, #10, #16, #30, #40, #50, #100, and #200. Shaker Machine – 1 Tin Pans – 5 Digital Scale - 1 Test Conditions: The experiment was performed in the classroom approximately 75 degrees Fahrenheit and at one atmospheric pressure. Procedures:
