Optical Microscopy Alite, C 3 S Belite, C 2 S Confocal Microscopy Three-dimensional representations are formed by acquiring a series of images of the same object at consecutive focal planes. Confocal projection image of Type I cement paste (w/c=0.485) exposed to a Na 2 SO 4 solution with 10,000 ppm sulfate ion concentration for 91 weeks. The image was produced from 125 confocal images spaced 5 mm apart in the z-direction. Optical microscopy image of Type V cement paste (w/c=0.485) exposed to a Na 2 SO 4 solution with 33,800 ppm sulfate ion concentration for 78 weeks.
