LaFleur 1 Yvan LaFleur Henry Kim Business Law October 21, 2009 Digital Millennium Copyright Act In 1998, the United States Congress passed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The Act was intended to address emerging technologies that allowed the circumvention of copyright protections and growing copyright violations on the Internet. According to the UCLA Online Institute for Cyberspace Law and Policy (UCLA Online Institue for Cyberspace Law and Policy), the act generally: Makes it a crime to circumvent anti-piracy measures built into most commercial software. Outlaws the manufacture, sale, or distribution of code-cracking devices used to illegally copy software. Does permit the cracking of copyright protection devices, however, to conduct encryption research, assess product interoperability, and test computer security systems. Provides exemptions from anti-circumvention provisions for nonprofit libraries, archives, and educational institutions under certain circumstances.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
