Head Teaching Assistant: Vahid Eskandari [email protected] Required : Textbook: “Essential Organic Chemistry,” 2 nd Ed” Paula Yurkanis Bruice Lab Manual: “Experiments for a Brief Course in Organic Chemistry” OSHA-approved lab goggles Additional materials strongly recommended: “Study Guide and Solution Manual, Essential Organic Chemistry,” 2 nd . Ed.” Course Prerequisites Description & Content: Completion of Chem. 8A or equivalent is a Prerequisite. As a follow up to Chem. 8A, chem. 8B continues with the nomenclature, structures, and reactions of major classes of organic compounds. This course is for students majoring in areas other than chemistry. Objectives : Upon completing this course students should know how to name organic compounds and draw their structures. Students should be able to predict the major products of chemical reactions involving aromatic compounds, alcohols, phenols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, derivatives of carboxylic acid.
