Standard Proctor ASTM-D698-A Lab Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to learn about the process know as a standard proctor or also an ASTM-D698-A proctor. It was also used to help us gain an understanding of maximum density and optimum moisture. Introduction: The main goal of the experiment was to learn how to conduct a standard proctor. The secondary goal of this lab experiment was to help us to gain an understanding of maximum density of a soil and also its optimum moisture content. Equipment: Soil Samples - 5 Standard Proctor Hammer - 1 Modified Proctor Hammer - 1 Proctor Mold, Mold Base, and Collar - 1 Rubber Mallet - 1 Pair of Pliers - 1 Test Conditions: The experiment was performed outside of the classroom approximately 60 degrees Fahrenheit and at one atmospheric pressure. Procedures: 1. Attach mold base, mold, and collar and tighten wing nuts and place on concrete floor. 2. Start with lowest moisture content sample and place enough soil in mold so that the mold part is slightly less then half full. 3.
