Asphalt Concrete Testing Methods – ARIZ 427, ARIZ 417b, ARIZ 410c, ARIZ 415b Purpose: The purpose of this construction materials test procedures (ARIZ 427, ARIZ 417b, ARIZ 410c, ARIZ 415b) is to determine the percent asphalt binder content of asphaltic concrete mixtures, by ignition, The specific gravity of the mixture and also the percent compaction of an asphalt sample. Introduction: These tests generally involve samples of asphalt concrete mixtures that have been placed in the field or have been provided to the testing facility by the production plant for analysis. All of theses methods have been evaluated and have been determined to be the best procedures for determine the test results that can be used to produce an asphalt concrete mixture that will not only be durable but will also be able to withstand the forces that are placed on them in the real world. Definition(s): Forged Air Furnace = a furnace capable of maintaining the temperature at 538 +/- 5 degrees Celsius, with an internal weighing system thermally isolated from the furnace chamber and accurate to 0.1 gram.
