2 Used to Live Here Once This story is a fictional narration. Jean Rhys wrote the short story “Used to Live Here Once”. Jean is very descriptive about all of the surrounding in the story. This story is about the place she grows up at, and she is remembering it now that she is dead. The story starts out at the river where she remembers the stones, and they are exactly how she remembers them. She really gives a lot of details when it comes to the stepping stones. “There was a round unsteady stone, the flat one in the middle, the safe stone where you could stand and look around.” (Rhys) I did some research and it says the unsafe rock was what caused her death. She slipped on the rock and fell into the river and lay dead beneath the water for many years. Now her spirit has returned and she is trying to get home. She saw the road, and she immediately realized it was wider. She did point out that
