Unit 3 Project 2 Unit 3 Project: Southwest Airlines When one considers the history of Southwest, such as no layoffs, no pay cuts, even a CEO that takes the same pay freeze they get employees to agree to (Morrison, R., Popkin, E., Boyle, G., Brady, W.M., Osgood, C., & Teichner, M., 2009). A company of honesty, integrity as well as dedication to the satisfaction of their employees and not just their customers; there a number of reasons for applicants to apply to Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines is a company whose focus is on the morale of their employees rather than their bottom line and consequently their focus has made them very profitable since 1973, after starting with flights between three Texas cities in 1971. They have continued to profit since. After September 11, 2001 when most airlines were barely keeping their heads above water, Southwest brought in profits of $151 million without a single layoff, (Southwest airlines cult brand profile, n.d.). Fun is a kind of motivator for employees; no one knows if their job is going to be fun until after they are hired and working for the company. Many employees would like to work in a job where they have fun, but surveys given have shown that most are content with an
