Unit 7 Assignment 2 Xcel Energy Pays for Employees Who Excel Introduction The Minneapolis based utility company, Xcel, currently uses an incentive plan they call “Xpress Ideas,” as a means of motivation for their staff in which employees are paid for ideas suggested to benefit the organization; employees are compensated immediately upon suggestion of their ideas. In one year, 6,133 ideas were suggested for which the company paid an average of $69.62 per idea to the suggesting employees costing them a total of $427,000. This was fair in terms of recognition for the exchange of ideas meant for the betterment of the employing organization. However, not all of the ideas were implemented and no consideration had been given to how and to what level the company would benefit from the ideas implemented.
