Reflective Summary Midterm Exam_Week 5_PAD 500 Throughout the course of the last four weeks I have learned numerous things pertaining to Public Administration and the importance of how they are all related . One of the most important factors is the reason for the existence of public administration . Public administration is the system that is responsible for developing policy and manages public programs and was developed as a means to reform the structure of the government in order to make the government more efficient. Individuals that work in public administration have different areas to choose from. It is not limited to one specific area. Individuals in public administration can pursue many avenues for their career goals. Employment opportunities can be found on levels ranging from executive down to supervisory levels. Public administration positions require some commitment to serving the public and employees may work for private or nonprofit agencies. Positions in public administration are also available in local, state and federal government. Some positions that public administrators may obtain include the professional fields of program managers, analysts, school principals, public assistance administrators, environmentalist, law enforcement and other public service positions. According the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (US Department of Labor (2005) public administrations positions consists of executive, legislative and general support. Justice, public order safety, space and research technology, economic programs, national and international affairs are additional areas that require public administration. I have learned how important it is for Public administrators to be responsible for ensuring that public programs are effectively and efficiently operating. Stakeholders have an effect on how public administrators make their decisions and sometimes can cause administrators

Reflective Summary Midterm Exam_Week 5_PAD 500 to make irrational decisions, which can affect the efficiency of an organization (Denhardt, 2010 p. 177). Ethics is another important element that public administrators should possess. Ethics the process by which we clarify right and wrong and act on what we believe to be right and can be defined as a systematic attempt through the use of reason to make sense of our individual and social moral experience in a way to determine the rules which should govern our conduct as humans. I have learned that the decisions made by public administrators are based on their ethics and they believe to be right or wrong (Denhardt, 2010 p. 127).
