LEGAL FUNDAMENTALS OF HEALTHCARE AND PUBLIC HEALTH HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE COURSE Adjunct Professor: Rodney M. Johnson, JD, BCHL This course involves a lot of reading. The materials are extensive and can be overwhelming if you don’t organize your approach. The best way to study for the quizzes is to first read and listen to the lecture. The exam questions come mostly from the lectures. Review the assigned materials. Listen to the lecture again - as many times as you wish - until you are generally comfortable with the material. Go to the Quagmire Topic discussion area, in the Star Chamber, for the current lecture and raise points you want clarified. Students can discuss what they think is correct. I will monitor and if any discussion goes on an errant tangent I will do my best to get you all back on track. Also, occasionally I will raise topics for discussion that are usually controversial and important unresolved issues in our modern world. It is good for you to express your opinions and suggestions for analyzing these interesting and challenging topics. 2% of your grade is based on participation in the Topic discussion groups. I have seen this make the difference in a letter grade (up and down) on several occasions. There is a direct benefit to gaining a couple extra points. Besides, the discussions often deal with situations you are likely to face. 10 quizzes occur during the semester. The quizzes are designed to be a part of the learning process. The quiz time limit of 2 hours is soft - you can take 4 hours to complete the 33 quiz questions without any penalty. HOWEVER, the midterm and final are strictly timed and no answers will be accepted after 2 hours. For the quizzes you even have a second chance to make a higher grade. The higher grade of your two quiz attempts is entered as your final score. The questions for the midterm and final are taken from the five preceding quizzes. So it pays to
