IS ACCOMMODATING WORKFORCE DIVERSITY A LUXURY OR A NECESSITY? 2 Is Accommodating Workforce Diversity a Luxury or a Necessity? Over the past century, the world has become a smaller place and with an ever faster pace, the world is becoming smaller and smaller. The days where a person was born and raised in a small town, attended schools with peers that all looked similar to him or her, and went on to work at a factory in that small town for the rest of his or her life are, in most cases gone. People born in developed or developing nations over the last century have seen air travel expand to accompany millions of travelers yearly, companies have grown to expand their reach throughout the world, and the internet has been developed and expanded to include all corners of the Earth. Watching these expansions, it can easily be said that the world has become a smaller place to live and workplace diversity is a natural part of this global expansion. At any company we work for there could be employees from any other part of our country or the world, employees from any other walk of life, employees of other races, creeds, colors, disability, sex or sexuality. With any change there is resistance and there was resistance to the change in workplace
