Lacy Jordan Lj5655 4/12/11 Group Discussion Board Posting: Thinking of the section of class just completed on Assisted Suicide and the Right to Die, write two to three paragraphs on the issues that most drew your interest. How do they illustrate a central theme of the class that when justifying the violation of the important moral imperatives we draw boundaries and resolve dilemmas? While the situations of Dax Cowart, Craig, and Diane exhibit different relations of an individual yearning for “the right to control” their life by active euthanasia to reach a peaceful death, the Quinlan, Cruzan, and Schiavo cases explore various “legal aspects” and reflect some of the “ethical issues” related to treatment of patients with profound brain injuries. Through many different issues like these, a rise in numerous public opinions arose. This pushed the need to justify the violation of the important moral imperatives by drawing boundaries to resolve dilemmas.
