Unformatted text preview: June 2010 PHARMACY SCHOOL Prerequisites Pharmacy is a dynamic health profession offering many opportunities and challenges. Today's pharmacists are highly educated professionals serving as a vital link between the physician, patient and other health professionals. General information on the profession and a list of accredited programs in the United States are available at: American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy http://www.aacp.org There are four accredited schools in Texas where one can earn a degree in Pharmacy. The Pharm. D. is the only entry-level degree offered. Texas pharmacy schools use individual applications which are usually available on the school web sites about October 1. We recommend applying in December or early January in order to increase opportunities to be invited to interviews during the spring semester. Consult individual program web sites for application deadlines which can change from year to year. Detailed application instructions vary from school to school and are provided RQ HDFK VFKRRO¶V admissions web site. Many out-of-state pharmacy programs use PharmCAS (Pharmacy College Application Service). Plan to take the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) no later than the fall semester during which you plan to submit your application. Useful links: Pharmacy school applications- http://cns.utexas.edu/hpo/applications.asp PharmCAS- http://www.pharmcas.org/ Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT)- http://www.pcatweb.info/ Because requirements may change on short notice, pre-pharmacy students are encouraged to consult with a pre- pharmacy advisor each semester and to regularly review school web sites. Ultimately, it is the student's responsibility to ensure proper courses are being taken and to stay informed on current admission policies.-2- June 2010 PHARMACY SCHOOL PREREQUISITES [REQUIREMENTS CAN CHANGE AT ANY TIME.
