ETHICS CASE STUDY 2 Ethics case study It is important that know that today’s health care environment is always changing. With health care environment always changing it is that every department in a health care organization understands the health care law. Thus, includes new employees to the health care organization. Throw this paper you learn about Jerry McCall, which is Dr. William’s office assistant, and what he is qualified by law too and what not to do. Jerry McCall is Dr. William’s office assistant. He has received professional training as both a medical assistant and a LPN. He is handling all the phone calls while the receptionist is at lunch. A patient calls and says he must have a prescription refill for Valium, an antidepressant medication, called in right away to his pharmacy, since he is leaving for the airport in thirty minutes. He says that Dr. Williams is a personal friend and always gives him a small supply of Valium when he has to fly. No one except Jerry is in the office at this time (Fremgen PHD, 2009). What should he do? Does Jerry’s medical training qualify him to issues this refill order? Why or why not? Even though Jerry has both medical assistant and LPN training he is not qualify to issue a refill order for the patient. Dr. Williams is the only person that is qualified to issues a refill order for the patient because he is the MD. Even if Jerry was to call Dr. Williams about the patient wanting the refill Jerry still cannot send in an order for a refill.
