Yaunek Murray Period 1 Psychology Chapter 2 Outline Neural Communication -We are each systems of subsystems that are in turn composed of even smaller subsystems. -Our thinking and emotions can influence our brains and our health. -Though human brains are complex they follow the same principals’ that govern the animal world. Neurons -The building blocks of our neural information system are called neurons. - Our brains are more complex than computers, but not faster at executing simple responses. -Neurons are like batteries, in that they generate electricity from chemical events. -When the action potential takes place in an axon it is similar to dominoes falling. -The neuron is a miniature decision-making device that performs some complex calculations. -A strong stimulus cannot trigger a stronger or faster impulse in a neuron. How Neurons Communicate. -Neurons interweave so intricately that it is hard to see where one neuron begins or end. -the axon terminal of one neuron is separated from the receiving neuron by the synaptic
