Econ Supplementary Reading Notes 03:56 The importance of preferences is less than the importance of market opportunity People adjust their standards to the men or women who show up that night no  matter if tall or short, fat or thin. Marriage happens as a result of several dates, the more dates the better the  odds of marrying someone Supply and demand are a big part of dating… for example the quote of 1800 girls  to 1300 guys says that women will adjust their standards (like the cynics believed)  in order to not die alone and have a married life Where men are scarce, women stay in school longer, and where men are rich,  women are plentiful Looking for a job is like looking for a date, you need to consider a range of jobs,  work out which ones you prefer, and persuade the employer that he likes the  match as much as you do; also who matches up with who, and on what terms,
