Guided by Religion Since the beginning of time, people have relied upon religion to unify their society, explain the unexplainable, and cope with the hardships of everyday life. Not only did the Aztecs practice religion to serve as a moral code, but it also was the inspiration behind their imperialistic yearnings. The Aztecs, driven by the their moral obligation to pay tribute to their Gods and stern faithfulness, were guided by religion, which ultimately shaped the foundation of their society. The Aztecs’ daily actions were formulated around their religion and their constant willingness to embrace their Gods. The Aztecs viewed their religion not only as a unifier for their values and beliefs, but also as a necessity to pay back their Gods for it was because of their own sacrifice that gave life to the Aztec people. The Aztecs’ unremitting behavior of human sacrifice epitomized their devotion to their noble deities, specifically, Huitzilopochtli, the god of the sun and war.
