Seth Klebe Prof. Awramik INT94ER 3/30/11 In truth as many will write, I wanted to take this class for the free unit and to fill a slot of time. However, the reason why I’m interested in this seminar comes specifically from my childhood fascination with aliens, and the Dan Brown novel Deception Point where NASA scandalously fakes the discovery of life. Besides the obvious allure of the plot, I really liked the science that was brought into play to strengthen the cover-up. Dan Brown is famous for the way he researches before he writes a book and this was no exception. Despite reading the book over 4 years ago the fascination stuck with me so I jumped at the chance to join a freshmen seminar that specifically discusses the question of whether or not there is life beyond our Earth. Truthfully, I am skeptical whether or not the answer to that question is a “yes,” but a part of me really hopes it is. Who knows? Maybe there is a galaxy or a corner of the universe that has life millions of times more
