Unformatted text preview: Seth Klebe Emma McCullough Music 15 Due 12/02/2010 A New Perspective on Contemporary Music On November 30, 2010, at 8:00 P.M. I heard a variety of Contemporary pieces under the direction of Jeremy Haladyna. Besides the fact that these pieces were all written within the last 60 years, the pieces were all very unique from each other. For example, Le merle noir by Olivier Messiaen is a programmatic piece about a blackbird while Xunaan Balam by Director Jeremy Haladyna is a Maya traditional piece about a Jaguar Queen who may also be a Shaman. The performers of these pieces were mostly UCSB students in addition to the Director himself who played on three of the pieces. The atmosphere of this particular concert was similar to ones that I have gone to before in the way that the director prefaced each individual piece while the stage hands helped set up.
