English Paper 1 Practice - The Journey Of A Lifetime The informative and entertaining article The Journey of a Lifetime , published on the 14th of November 2015 on the magazine The New Scientist , takes us through, as the title indicates, the journey of a lifetime. More specifically, it accompanies us through the evolution of water from 4 billion years ago until today. In order to do this, the author uses a story pattern to engage the readers and make them understand the trip as if they were taking part of it. So instead of writing a scientific article which only people who dedicate their lives to science would understand, the author decides to present science through literature, with the purpose of making it understandable for people that are interested in science but don’t particularly study or know about it. The first thing that catches the reader’s eye in the article is the mysterious cover picture. In this is portrayed the head of a person, whose gender is undefinable, made of space nebulas. This symbolizes the connection that we, humans, hold with the universe. Since the human head is not given any specific gender, we can assume that the reader’s gender will not have any effect on the understanding of the article. The choice of colors and the drawing
