Textual Analysis : A Soup Full Of Flavor And Food Value For These Strenuous Days Of War This text is an advertisement for Campbell’s Soup called A Soup Full Of Flavor And Food Value For These Strenuous Days Of War. Although the author and the publishing date are unknown, we can infer from the continuous mention of war that it was made at some time during the second World War. The audience of this text are women, since the mention of women is repeated many times in the text and as they filled the role of housewives. The dominant colors of the ad, (white, red and blue), also suggest that it was made for Americans. The purpose of this text is to promote and sell the new improved Campbell vegetable soup. The author achieves this through the targeting of the intended reader, underlying contextual implications and elements of persuasion and wartime propaganda. It is evident that this advertisement uses the appeal to the targeted audience, in this case women, since in that time they were the ones in charge of preparing the food, not to mention the big picture of the woman in the middle of the poster.
