What are Recordable Injuries? every work-related injury or illness that involves loss of consciousness, restricted work activity or job transfer, days away from work, or medical treatment beyond first aid . OSHA Recordable Injury Rate Injuries and illnesses incurred per 200,000 hours of worker exposure (200,000 hours is equivalent to the hours worked in one year by 100 full-time workers) An Example: 6 injuries 385,000 hours RIR = 6 injuries/385,000 hrs X 200,000 RIR = 3.1 National Average: RIR = 4.7 Which hours are included in the RIR Computation? salaried, hourly, part-time and seasonal workers, as well as hours worked by other workers subject to day to day supervision RIR includes the hours of all employees Research Question: Can the RIR be used to make reliable comparisons of Safety Performance between companies?
