Familiarize students with the need for affordable housing, changes in the US that affected housing, housing market definition, regulatory cost impact, and alternative building systems. Keywords . . . Housing, Affordability, Cost factors, Alternative building systems Prerequisites . . . Senior standing Delivery method . . . Lectures, discussion, guest speakers, term papers Objective . . . After completing this course, students will understand the key factors that have shaped US cities. They will be able to identify potential markets, discuss local land use and building regulations, and understand factors contributing to affordability problems in housing delivery. They will understand money-saving land development and alternative building system technology. Text . . . There is no single text that addresses the various aspects of affordable housing delivery. Reading assignments will be in materials available on the Internet or distributed in class. Grading performance . . . Do your own work! The School of Building Construction has a zero-tolerance policy for cheating in any form. Cheating on a test, copying another student’s term paper, or any form of not doing your own work will result in a failing grade for the semester in the course. There will be three exams each comprising 25% of the final grade.
