Unformatted text preview: Grade 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 Grade Subpart J Welding and Cutting Acetylene Bottle Valve protection caps shall be in place (when stored or being moved) Hoisting: cylinders secured in a cradle, not with chokers To move cylinders by hand, tilt them and roll them on their bottom edges secured in vertical position No lifting by the valve protection caps Use a cylinder truck to keep cylinders from being knocked over while in use When Finished With Task When Cylinders are Empty When moving cylinders Valve to be closed: Cylinders secured upright at all times, unless being hoisted or carried In storage: 20 min. Oxygen Fuel Gas or 5 foot barrier Placement of Cylinders 20 from combustibles (excelsior or oil) Cylinders kept far from welding or cutting operations (or use shields) Place cylinders so they cannot become part of an electrical circuit Valve shall always be opened slowly to prevent damage to the regulator Valve Regulator Before removing the regulator from the cylinder valve, shut the valve and release the gas from the regulator Hose couplings shall be such that they cannot be unlocked or disconnected by means of a straight pull without rotation Arc Welding 10 (min) cable free from repair or splices except if standard insulated connectors are used or if slices have comparable insulating quality Employers shall instruct employees in the safe means of arc welding and cutting When electrode holders are left unattended, electrodes shall be removed holders so placed that they cannot make electrical contact with employees or conducting objects in confined spaces quick extraction should be arranged An attendant shall be stationed outside to observe the welder at all times have pre-planned rescue procedure in place Welding, cutting or heating of metals of toxic significance (zinc, lead, cadmium, or chromium-bearing metals) in enclosed spaces use proper exhaust ventilation or use air line respirators All workers in the area have the same protection 1926.3531926....
