Environmental Technology I Gold Kim Kwon Gabbard Spring 2003 HVAC SYSTEM DESIGN– Example The following steps outline the procedure for estimating the HVAC equipment sizes for the example problem – classroom space defined below. This classroom example is adapted from the HW 8: Cooling Load Estimate and has the VAV air delivery system. Assume that there are 20 identical zones and 1 AHU is required for 5 zones in this example. A single zone consists of 2 spaces. For 5 Identical Zones 1 2,250 600 55,890 84,000 139,890 2 2,250 600 55,890 84,000 139,890 3 2,250 600 55,890 84,000 139,890 4 2,250 600 55,890 84,000 139,890 5 2,250 600 55,890 84,000 139,890 TOTAL 3,000 279,450 699,450 I. Based on CFM Air Required; 1. Estimate VAV terminal size for each zone [Figure 8.55 in MEEB] Example For 2,850 CFM: approx. 16” (H) x 50” (L) x 40” (W)
