The Letter of Commitment The letter of commitment serves as a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the submitting organization and its collaborative partners. Basically, an MOU is a written agreement between the lead organization submitting the grant proposal and the collaborative partners' organizations. In an MOU, all the partners commit to certain responsibilities and expectations within a specific time frame. As the grant writer, you will be designing the letters of commitment to match each specific proposal and request with each collaborative partner. These letters outline the partners' commitment to the project in three ways: in-kind donations of space, telephones, computers, and supplies actual funds raised to support the project staff and leadership time in planning, implementing, and evaluating the project The purpose of letters of commitment is to share the partners' belief in the project and its ability to make a difference in the community.
