The higher the % the better the organization is viewed. From the Expenses lines you take the \$’s for program expenses and divide that by total expenses. For potential benefactors this tells them how much of their contributions are going for programs rather than overhead (organization administrative expenses). Line 13 program expenses /line 17 overall expenses 990 from 2008+ – Part III line 4(e)/Part I line 18 990EZ – Line 10/line 17 Fundraising Administrative Ratio – Calculates the % of resources spent to raise monies for programs. The lower the % the better the organization is viewed. Look for 20% and lower. From the expenses line you take the monies spent on fundraising and divide that by the total expenses. For potential benefactors this tells them how efficient the organization is at raising monies. line 15 fundraising expenses/ line 17 total expenses 990 from 2008+ – line 16b/line18 990EZ – Not calculable w/o Schedule G or Audit report Fundraising Efficiency Ratio - Calculates the % the organizations funds it used to raise monies for itself. This is a more precise ratio than the Fundraising Administrative ratio and we should see a lower %, in the 3-19% range. From the expense area take the fundraising expenses monies and divide that by the funds raised line in the revenue section. 990 from 2007 & prior
