Unformatted text preview: Rachel Schwarz ENG 112-NF 15 February 2011 Pretty The first line of this piece, I love being drunk. Is that bad? (1) sets the stage for an unconventional and enticing plot. The narrator seems to be in search of some direction in her life. The narrator begins to speak with a hopeful tone describing the possibility of her actually loving everything in her life. As the audience learns more about the speaker, it becomes apparent that the speaker is trying to mask her depression and unhappiness. The narrator describes, I look grim in the mirror, in here without an audience. Without the forced cheer, the smiles, the eye- crinkles, I look like an inmate (3). The speaker is imprisoned by the feelings she cannot release. To cope with her loneliness, the narrator drinks heavily and is on a constant quest for sexual conquests. The narrator even admits, I like being wanted, being useful (9). The narrator is using men to fill the void in her life. Although, the narrator finds no problems with her actions. using men to fill the void in her life....
