Schwarz 1 Rachel Schwarz Dr. Tammy Kernodle MUS 135 Section A Fall 2010 1 December 2010 Miami University Jazz Ensemble I could see my breath as I approached the heavy, impassive doors that confined Hall Auditorium. It was the chilly, autumn night of November 22, when the striking Miami University Jazz Ensemble would execute its second performance of the academic semester. I set foot into the lobby to encounter groups of chattering students and well dressed volunteers doling out the characteristic black and white printed pamphlets. I strolled into the expansive concert hall, surprised to discover that only a small number of audience members had seated themselves. I approached my own red, padded chair in the central portion of the middle row, as to have the most optimum view of the dazzling performers. I tilted my head back to take in the full picture of Hall Auditorium’s high, white molded ceilings and draped velvet curtains. The musicians were positioned onstage conserving and reviewing music, while their instruments lay idly on their chairs. The musicians were all dressed relatively conservatively in collared shirts and dress pants
