Chapter 10- Contract Administration Grievance- employee’s alleged violation of the labor agreement that is submitted to the grievance procedure for resolution. Employee voice - individual has the opportunity to offer input into managements decision making to discuss, appeal, adverse employment actions Arbitration - hired by union and management to make final and binding decision on a disputed issue Mediation - used to help resolve interest disputes during contract negotiations. Not binding Grievance Mediation- formal step in the grievance procedure (before arbitration) to resolve grievances without the use of arbitration, Yields voluntary agreements Transformation mediation - gets parties to discover their own separate and mutual resources and to understand the other party’s point of view (US Postal Service) Open door policy - supervisors and managers understand that part of their jobs is to solve workplace problems through open door admission Ombudsperson - employed by a company to help resolve personal disputes “Go Between” parties
