Chapter 4- Union and Management Craft unions - composed of members who have been organized in accordance with their craft skill. Ex bricklayers, carpenters Industrial unions- organized on an industry basis, ex. steelworkers and auto workers Business agent - full time administrator of the local craft union Shop steward - first person on the job or senior employee, handles grievance, represents the business agent on the job International union representative- assists local officers in negotiations and in administering the labor agreement Convention - supreme governing body of the national union, held annually or biennially Master labor agreement - agreements with one firm might negotiate to cover all facilities Amalgamation - occurs when two or more unions of equal size form a new union Absorption - occurs when a small union merges into a larger union and losses identity Affiliation - occurs when a single plant, company, union merges into a national union Associate membership program - AFLCIO recognizes maintaining contact with employees who are not
