Chapter 6- Negotiating Labor Agreement Collective bargaining - union and management attempt to resolve conflicts of interest by exchanging commitments to enrich their relationship Interest dispute - dispute arises over what the terms and conditions of employment will be Pattern bargaining- negotiators informally attempt to extend a negotiated settlement from one formal structure to another Bargaining unit- employees and employers who will be bounded by a negotiated labor agreement Non mandatory - whether to combine ABU’s together for negation purposes Centralized bargaining - choosing to combine ABUs for negotiation purposes Multi employer bargaining unit - multiple employers combined to create single contract at each firm (trucking, newspaper) Whip saw bargaining strategy - to obtain concessions from one unit which can be used as leverage to seek similar contract terms Coordinated bargaining - two or more separated units share information about priorities, strategies, info Bargaining range
