8/27/11 A brief History Marijuana: 1930s became outlawed in most of the  south The Marijuana Tax Act 1937: $100 per ounce tax Boggs Act: marijuana and heroin were classified  as federally prohibited controlled substances Narcotic Control Act 1956:  increased penalties  drug trafficking and possession
