History 2C Midterm Review o What is a revolution? o Extreme shifts in political ideology o Conflict resulting in change in government o Change from old to new o Successful rebellion o Shift of pardigm o Major change in structure of society o Changes=technological, religious, cultural, industrial, environmental, economic, political, social o “a turn around”-is a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time. Revolutions have occurred throughout human history and vary weidely in terms of methods, duration and motivating ideology. Their results include major changes in culture, economy and socio-political institutions o Aristotle described 2 typs of political revolutions o 1. Complete change from 1 constitution to another o 2. Modifications of existing constitutions o Revolutions in the 18 th /19 th centuries o French, Haitian, American, Industrial o Mental: scientific (1543-1727)-different way of concieving things (Enlightenment) o Political: English o Social: British Colonies/ US o Social: French-new groups of people who had no power before were taking control o Economic: industrial o Hybrid: latin American, egyptian o What causes changes?
