Paper# 4 Prathyusha Yanigandla EN 101 Animal experimentation and cruelty are two very different topics, however; they can sometimes overlap into each other. In medical and cosmetic research, along with a few others, animals are often times experimented with to test the company’s prototype products. Companies use animals that are genetically as close to humans as possible so that it’s more accurate to determine that their final product may be safe as possible for humans to use. In this process, the prototype products that are tested on the animals can sometimes end up harming the animal and potentially damaging them, however; it is important to keep in mind that it is not maliciously intended. The potential risk that it may cause the animal is acknowledged, but the prototypes are made at first hand to be the least risky as possible. As with most things in life, there is risk but whatever harm it may cause the animal thereafter, is an accident. Although there is a variation on what certain people agree animal cruelty or abuse to be, the typical definition is the infliction of suffering or harm upon animals, other than humans, for purposes other than self-defense. More narrowly, it can be harm for specific gain, such as killing animals for food or for their fur (Lea, 2007). The harm that the animal may face in these certain experimentations is not always present, nor selfishly inflicted even though the risk still presumes. The use of animals for research is not only useful, but necessary in order to seek advances in medicine and human health.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
