COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed to prepare students for first year Calculus courses. Topics include language and notation of mathematics; problem solving; algebraic, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions and their graphs. 2. REQUIRED TEXTBOOK AND MATERIAL: Precalculus A Prelude to Calculus , 1 st edition by Sheldon Axler, Wiley Publishing. ISBN: 9780470180723 3. PREREQUITE: BC Principles of Mathematics 11 (or equivalent) with a grade of at least 70%, or SFU FAN-099 with a grade of at least C, or achieving a satisfactory grade on the SFU Quantitative Placement Tests. Students with credit for MATH-110 may not take MATH-100 for further credit. MATH-100 may not be counted towards the mathematics minor, major or honors degree requirements. 4. DETAILED SUMMARY OF EVALUATION SCHEME There will be two quizzes, two Midterms and a final. You must give advance notice if you have to miss any quiz or test due to emergencies, otherwise it will be counted as 0 for the grade. There will be no make-up exams. Their weightings are as follows: 5 Assignments and 2 Quizzes (1 hr)
