QUICKBOOKS 2010 PROADVISOR CERTIFICATION COURSE SECTION 1 129 Module 5 Customizing QuickBooks Lesson 1 – Introduction to Customizing QuickBooks Video Commentary There’s no better way to demonstrate your expertise and helpfulness than by customizing QuickBooks. This allows you to match QuickBooks to your client’s preferences and the way they work. Some clients are overwhelmed by all the choices and links on their homepage. You can reduce this confusion by customizing their home page to remove icons they don’t need. You can also help them create a professional and consistent image with custom form design. Finally, you can customize what each and every employee can see and do in QuickBooks. This provides the access controls that are critical to the control of your client’s accounting system. By the end of this module, you’ll know how to set QuickBooks preferences, and how to customize the QuickBooks Home page, icon bar and menu bar. You’ll be able to create custom fields, and customize QuickBooks forms. And you’ll know what the QuickBooks administrator can do, and how to protect QuickBooks data. Finally, you’ll learn what your client’s can do in single-user mode versus multi- user mode, and how the audit trail keeps an accurate record of your client’s data. END The information in this module pertains to both new and existing QuickBooks files. After completing this module, you'll be able to do the following: Distinguish between company and personal preferences Set QuickBooks preferences Customize the QuickBooks desktop Set up custom fields for customers, vendors, employees, and items Customize QuickBooks forms List the functions only the QuickBooks Administrator (See Glossary) can perform Set up user passwords Grant or restrict access to areas of QuickBooks List QuickBooks functions that you can perform only in single-user mode Use the QuickBooks audit trail

QUICKBOOKS 2010 PROADVISOR CERTIFICATION COURSE SECTION 1 131 Module 5 Customizing QuickBooks Lesson 2 – Setting Preferences Set QuickBooks preferences In this lesson, you'll learn how QuickBooks preferences affect how QuickBooks handles data, how to edit preferences, and the difference between company preferences and personal preferences. In QuickBooks, preferences are used to turn certain features on or off and to control the behavior of other parts of the program, such as the aging of transactions, the assessment of finance charges, and which options display on menus and the Home page. QuickBooks sets some preferences based on responses in the EasyStep Interview, but you'll want to review all preferences and make any necessary adjustments to confirm that the file is set up appropriately for the company. Use the Preferences window to review and change preferences—you cannot go back through the EasyStep Interview to change them. To open the Preferences
