Discussion 1: Joe’s Hamburger Grill What are some suggestions that might help Joe as he thinks about changing the way he pays someone to manage the Grill? Joe should not only think about what other companies and areas (close by) pay managers but he should also think about how he can retain a good manager and know who will best fit and appreciate the company should he decide to sell it to the manager in the future. Discuss whether or not Joe’s approach to determining how much to pay a manager was successful. How would you recommend he do things differently? Joe’s approach was not really a bad one considering he had no experience. It wasn’t a bad way to try to figure out a fair pay to offer. The best thing he could have done was to try to research the going rate for restaurant or service managers and maybe different types of compensation packages that are offered to them and then figured out how to pay his managers. Losing the second manager to a Dallas store is not to be unexpected because a larger Dallas store would be harder for a
