L ETTER TO MENOECOUS E PICURUS SUMMARIZES HIS ETHICS E PICURUS TELLS M ENOECOUS THAT EVERYONE SHOULD SEEK WISDOM WHEN THEY ARE YOUNG AND NOT BE AFRAID TO LOOK FOR IT AGAIN WHEN THEY ARE OLD H E ALSO SAYS THAT THERE IS NO WRONG TIME FOR PHILOSOPHY LIKE THERE IS NO WRONG TIME FOR HAPPINESS HE ALSO SAYS THAT WE MUST EXERCISE OURSELVES IN BEING HAPPY BECAUSE IF WE DO NOT THEN THAT IS ALL WE WILL SEARCH FOR H E TELLS US TO BELIEVE THAT G OD IS A LIVING BEING IMMORTAL AND BLESSED AND THAT YOU SHOULDN T BELIEVE THINGS THAT WOULD MAKE HIM SEEM IMMORTAL OR UNBLESSED H E SAYS THAT THE MAN WHO DENIES THE G ODS WORSHIPED BY THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ISN T IMPIOUS BUT THE MAN WHO AGREES WITH THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ABOUT WHAT THE G ODS ARE LIKE IS IMPIOUS BECAUSE WHAT MAN SAYS ABOUT THE G ODS ARE NOT PRECONCEPTIONS BUT FALSE ASSUMPTIONS H E SAYS THAT US UNDERSTANDING THAT DEATH MEANS NOTHING MAKES LIFE ENJOYABLE YOU DO THIS NOT BY MAKING THE ASSUMPTION YOU LIVE FOREVER BUT
