Sheet1 Page 2 MAC1105 College Algebra Fall 2010, 3 credit hours Course Description: College Algebra: PR: Appropriate score on the UCF Math Placement test, or MAT1033 with a C(2.0) or better, or C.I. Inequalities, high degree polynomials, graphs, rational, logarithmic, and exponential functions will be studied. This course prepares students for higher-level mathematics courses. The & NC& grading policy applies to this course. Course Goals: This course is designed to familiarize the student with such fundamental mathematical concepts as polynomials, linear and quadratic equations, exponential functions, and logarithmic functions. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to apply various problem-solving strategies to find solutions to a variety of real-life problems. Furthermore, the student will have acquired the necessary algebraic skills to continue pursuing higher levels of mathematics. Class Meetings: There is one lecture each week and a minimum of three hours required in the Mathematics Assistance and Learning Lab (MALL). Contact Information: See Faculty Information in MyLabsPlus. Sheet1 Page 3 Materials: Required: College Algebra, by Lial, Hornsby, and Schneider Third Custom Edition with MyLabsPlus access code, TI- 30XA calculator, 8.5“ X11d blue books for each test and the final exam, and iClicker Transmitter. Calculator: You may use a Texas Instruments TI-30XA calculator on the tests. You may not use any other type or model calculator in this course. Cell phone calculators and sharing calculators of any type will not be permitted. Use of an unauthorized calculator will result in a grade of zero and possible disciplinary action. Attendance/ Etiquette: Please observe common rules of courtesy. Once inside the classroom you should turn off all cell-phones and laptops as they are not to be used during class. Past experience indicates that the students who will succeed in the class are the students who attend. You should plan on staying for the entire 50 minutes. Try to avoid leaving early, or arriving late, as it is 5 a distraction to your classmates and your instructor. Additionally, if you arrive late or leave early, you may lose
