Note from Dr. Appel: While I do believe that the thesis guidelines are accurate, I want to add a few guidelines of my  own that will help you through this process.  First and foremost, you need to understand that  you previous classes have instilled in you all lessons and learning that you needed to undertake  this master’s thesis class.  This means you have been taught all that the university is  responsible for teaching you and now you must take over the responsibility for your own  education.  I have written a paper on this and I advise you to read it carefully.   As you may have noticed, each step you take up the educational ladder, you have taken on  more responsibilities.  Now, you are taking a much larger step.  The instructor student  relationship changes at this point and my role becomes one of guidance and advisor.  Your role  also has changed as you are now considered senior students capable of acting and deciding  matters on your own.  The days of definitive right and wrong answers are over and things will  now become much grayer for you.  Your professors will give you advice and options, but you  must decide what to do for yourselves. At this point, we, the professors, consider you colleagues in training.  You may have noticed that
