Anna Gomenyuk English 102 Summary January 28, 2011 Today, the love two individuals may have for one another can be so strong that it can defeat any issues these people may face. The film “David & Layla”, based on a true story, is the perfect example of the modern day Romeo and Juliet. It was produced in 2005 taking place in New York. David Moscow and Shiva Rose play the roles of David and Layla. This romantic comedy shows how the two practiced different religions yet found a way to make things work. David was Jewish who fell deeply in love with Layla, a Muslim refugee from Iraq. You can see the irony of a Muslim and a Jew falling in love. Things were quite difficult when the families did not approve. David had to convert to Islam in order to marry Layla as well. The film shows how much someone would do for the one they love. It also acquaints you with the Muslim and Jewish religion, showing the struggles they went through to be together. Interreligious marriages have increased in the United States. Larry D. Barnett
