COURSE DESCRIPTION Cp Eng 318 – Digital System Modeling (Offered each Spring Semester) Required or Elective Course: Elective Catalog Description: (LEC 3.0) Digital system modeling for simulation, synthesis, and rapid system prototyping. Structural and behavioral models, concurrent and sequential language elements, resolved signals, generics, configuration, test benches, processes and case studies. Prerequisite: CpEng 111 and CpE112; or Cmp Sc234. Prerequisites by Topic: 1. Basic logic design techniques, both combinational and sequential. 2. Familiarity with basic electrical circuits and electronics. Textbooks and other required material: 1. Textbook: Peter J. Ashenden, The Designer’s Guide to VHDL, second edition, Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, 2002. 2. Lecture notes, powerPoint lecture slides 3. Course learning outcomes/expected performance criteria: 1. Learn the IEEE Standard 1076 Hardware Description Language (VHDL) 2. Be able to model complex digital systems at several level of abstractions;
