ANOVA TWO FACTOR WITH REPLICATION Situation: There are two factors with a levels of factor A and b levels of Factor B so that there are (ab) different treatments Samples of size p are taken from each of the (ab) Populations The Statistical F - tests: TEST 1: H 0 : The two factors do not interact to affect the mean values. H 1 : The two factors do interact to affect the mean values. If it is not concluded that the factors interact, proceed to Tests 2 and 3! Else we can stop at this point! TEST 2: H 0 : The mean values of Factor A are equal. H 1 : The mean values of Factor A differ. TEST 3: H 0 : The mean values of Factor B are equal. H 1 : The mean values of Factor B differ. Example 1: Can we conclude that diet and exercise affects weight loss in men? Factor A (Diet): a = 4 levels -- (1) None; (2) Low Cal; (3) Low Carb (4) Modified Liquid Factor B (Exercise): b = 3 levels -- (1) None; (2) 3 times/week; (3) Daily Replications: p = 4 men chosen at random from each of the 12 (= 4x3) diet-exercise treatments
