Structuralism - 1 st  approach in 1879 by  Wilhelm Wundt Used introspection method to collect data Functionalism , by  William James , interested in mental activity -Mind has a continuous flow of mental activity (didn’t shut down when you sleep) - Interested in the function of the mind  and how it adapted -He wrote,  “The Principles of Psychology” -“The mind is what the brain does.” The activites of the mind that we can’t see operate in the brain, so we need to   understand/study the brain…to understand the mind.  The mind/body connection… p. 49 Brain vs. The Mind   Psychoanalytic , 1909,  Sigmund Freud , introduced by G. Stanley Hall (Hopkins Univ.) - Unconscious:  this is a part of the mind we have difficulty tapping into…however, we  can still try and study it through dreams…dream interpretation - Dream Interpretation:
