DOC 1 Discussion 11/17/10 2 hegemonic ideologies - classic liberalism o neoliberalism o heteronormativity – D’milio: sexual identity; what’s the hegemonic ideal / deviant or “other” which would be gay/lesbian people; economic developments of these people - D’milio reading o Labor expanded o People were able to make their own ID than they were able to embrace o Family structure changed by capitalism because of WWII – women had to go out and work; more opps to get out and work for women; independence o They were able to be more economically independent o Less need of a man o Society where economic units are individualistic o To work a farm, people needed lots of kids to work to survive back then o Economic function family structure o Family as an economic institution before; as industrial capitalism developments, the agri economy breaks down and urbanization emerges; becomes an industrial capitalist economy o Individuals leaving home to work elsewhere o
