DOC 1 Lecture Notes 11/03/10 Rosa Parks - known for refusing to sit in the back of a bus when we had segregated public transportation when black people had to sit in the back - not the first to do this; others did it and got put into jail - her case led to series of events in South Montgomery bus boycott MLK - not first time but most consequential kind - site of resistance by herself and led to social reform 1963 - march on Washington DC - economic equality and end to white supremacy/Jim Crow/segregation - lots of famous ppl came to this march, including Jackie Robinson and his son, Bob Dylan and Joan Biaz 1965 - Civil Rights Act - Voting Rights Act – attempt to get rid of intimidation at the poles, stop black people from voting… federal law signed saying it’s legal Terms for week: 1.
