In Beauty and the Beast by Angela Barrett, the character beauty belongs to the family of a wealthy merchant who loves to spoil his daughters rotten. Being one amongst the three daughters, beauty, being the most beautiful and youngest of the three, is also the simplest of them all. “Beauty by name, beauty by nature”, her father likes to call her. She dreams of one day finding her true, real love. After her father’s unfortunate encounter with a hideous beast like man, who threatens to take his life, beauty sacrifices herself in place for her father because he got in that position because of her. Beauty who starts out afraid of the beast like man and his hideousness, learns to look past the outer appearance and ends up falling in love with him. This same man, is also one the wealthiest and in the end, he also turns out to be handsome because beauty’s love for him breaks the curse that had once turned him into a beast because of his arrogant ways.
